1,920 DOUBLE BEDS LARGE: The planning Workshop to extend Park Fiction to the Harbour edge begins!

It’s really happening, everyone! Planning for the Park Fiction expansion to the banks of the Elbe will begin next Friday, September 26! This newsletter is dedicated to this exciting development and summarizes all the dates and brief information on the status of the planning. Commissioned by Hamburg’s authority for ecology (BUKEA), the process officially runs under the catchy title „Qualifizierung Hafenkante – Qualification Harbour Edge“.

Mark the dates in your calendars, come take a look, and join the discussion!

The most important date is the workshop on November 6!

In the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, the Park Fiction Committee began working on its vision for the Elbe riverbank between the fish market and the Landungsbrücken. Based on these results, particularly from users and neighbors, concrete planning is now underway:

Landscape architecture firms were invited to submit sketches of their ideas to the city. These sketches were intended to show how they understood the site and how they intended to translate the task into architecture. Three firms were selected.

There are three public events to view the ideas, firms, interim and final results, and provide feedback:

February 12:

Public presentation | Workshop process St. Pauli Hafenkante

Kölibri, Hein-Köllisch-Platz 12, 20359 Hamburg

Thursday, February 12, 2026, 6:00–9:00 p.m.

In this Workshop, the final Designs will be presented by the architects – final chance for feedback before the decision.

The planning is based on the independent production of desires and evaluation carried out by the Park Fiction Committee – take a look at our big green book here and share your thoughts.

Even before the planning began, there was an initial “reality check”: all participating authorities, stakeholders, and representatives of neighborhood facilities and initiatives agreed on a commitment paper. During a test phase lasting several weeks, Projektbüro and uvm tested certain ideas from the wish list (results report available for download here). Now it’s time for concrete planning.

In a nutshell, the next step is for the architects to plan a landscape design that

  • preserves the open space,
  • creates shade with trees,
  • improves access to the Elbe and makes it more accessible, and last but not least:
  • finds a way to realize even the most unusual ideas from the wish list.

And, of course, the fish market will remain.

We look forward to seeing you!
